Research & Outreach

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has a long history of a highly productive research faculty. All of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology faculty have a research appointment within the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) in addition to their academic appointments within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. To this end, much of the research conducted in the department is centrally focused on topics of concern to agriculture in Mississippi, the southern region, and the nation. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as a discipline transcends specific commodity groups, thus faculty in the department interface with scientists across the MSU campus, state and region working on projects with corn, cotton, rice, livestock, biofuels, grapes, etc. In addition to research emphasis areas of agricultural importance, faculty in the department have been well funded on projects associated with human health in environmental toxicology, pharmacology, and other areas. Ours is a diverse field at the interface between the chemical and biological sciences. If you have interest in the research currently going on in the department, the web-site links to the right will take you to profiles of current research highlights by our faculty, listings of publications by the departmental faculty, and also describe aspects of our outreach efforts the department is currently engaged in to translate our research outcomes and impacts to the community.

If you have specific questions regarding the research efforts currently on-going in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology please contact any of the faculty directly for more information. In addition, if you are interested in graduate school opportunities (M.S. or Ph.D.), or postdoctoral fellowships, working in our research laboratories please contact the department about these options.
